WOODEN HEAD

Harmonia Dewikwe, the government trained manicurist, was saved at last by her own hard head. She was pressed by a monotonous hollow caw to be healed at the new tribal nation announced on talk radio; thereupon she paddled an aluminum canoe into the Strait of Georgia and was overturned in rough seas near Point Assinika.

“She washed up on shore with a waterlogged head near the Trickster of Liberty,” roared the pale man with no name. “That very wooden head she came to have healed in the new nation saved her other endowed parts.”

The no name man, who would answer to nonce words on occasion, was a pale weaver with a doctorate in consciousness studies from the University of California. He moved to the outback on the reservation and remained a lover and weaver in silence for seven years. The secretive weaver was the third and last man who lived with Binn Columbus.

Now the pale weaver roars the same stories over and over, such as the tale of the woman with the wooden head, and other stories on women; the same stories with new scenes, the seascapes of a new nation. He is bent to recover the silence in turns on a creation theme. That roar at the marina tavern is the common father of Stone Columbus.

“Harmonia lost her original head to the wiindigoo one night as she did his cold nails, so the best head and shoulders shaman of the tribe imagined a new one,” he roared near the back of the new tavern on the Miigis Marina. “The manicurist lost two more, so the shaman gave her a wooden head with the mind of a crow, but she hated the croaks and caws, and the black roads in memories, so she headed for the point in a canoe to celebrate the creation of the new tribal nation.”

Point Assinika was declared a sovereign nation on October 12, 1992, by the Heirs of Christopher Columbus. “At dawn we saw pale naked people, and we went ashore in the ship’s boat,” said the adventurer on an exclusive talk show radio broadcast. “Miigis unfurled the royal banner, and the heirs brought the flags which displayed a large blue bear paw.

“The Heirs of Columbus bear faith and witness that we have taken possession of this point in the name of our genes and the wild tricksters of liberties, and we made all the necessary declarations and had these testimonies recorded by a blond anthropologist.

“No sooner had we concluded the formalities of taking possession of the point than people began to come to the beach, all as pale as their mothers bore them, and the women also, although we did not see more than one very young girl,” said Stone Columbus on Carp Radio.

Admiral Luckie White, heads of state, tribal leaders, ambassadors, ministers, corporate directors, and those so eager to be healed were there that warm morning to honor the first nation in the histories of the modem world dedicated to protean humor and the genes that would heal.
